Ellen Tebbits - Beverley Cleary - Audio Book

Ellen Tebbits - Beverley Cleary : Ellen Tebbits is convinced she'll die of embarrassment if any of the girls at school discover her secret. But then she meets Austine Allen, a new girl in class who's hiding the very same secret, instantly, the two become best friends. They do everything together, from clapping erasers to riding horses.

Ellen quickly learns that embarrassing secrets and pesky troublemakers like Otis Spofford aren't so bad when you have someone special to stick up for you. But then Ellen does something terrible that makes Austine stop speaking to her. Will she ever be able to prove how sorry she is?

This refreshing book nicely portrays what happens in a friendship between two young girls.
Although written in 1951, this book is still actual. Friendship, with its up and down, can survive almost everything as long as its a true one. And this story is about true friendship. I think that lots of children will recognize themselve.

Tales from the Norse Legends - Edward Ferrie - Audio Book

Tales from the Norse Legends - Edward Ferrie : The tales of the Norse gods, of the giants, demons, trolls and dwarves, still have the power to fascinate more than a thousand years after they were first told. Here are the stories of the one-eyed god Odin, the all-seeing, who from his throne in Asgard the home of the gods, has to prepare for Ragnarok, the final conflict between good and evil. There are tales too of Tyr the god of war, of the cunning Loki, of Thor the mighty
thunder god and a host of others.

There is so many suspenses and action in these legends as in those who are actually "showed" us. And moreover, they make us think about the sense hidden of their contents. Simply beautiful.

Coriander, I - Sally Gardner - Audio Book

Coriander, I - Sally Gardner : I am Coriander Hobie. I was born in the year of Our Lord 1643, the only child of Thomas and Eleanor Hobie, in our great house on the River Thames in London. Of my early years I remember only happiness. That was before I knew this world had such evil in it, and that my fate was to be locked up in a chest and left to die.

This is my story. This is my life. I looked back into the bedchamber. The floor had become a sea and the bed a ship, seen from a great distance. I could hear voices calling me from Jar away. It was an image that came to haunt me, and I have often wondered what would have happened if I had done as I was told and left the silver shoes alone.

Oh yes ! If we only did as we were told do you think we would be where we are now?

Tales of Irish Myths - Benedict Flynn - Audio Book

Tales of Irish Myths - Benedict Flynn : Here the line between the fantastical and the real is blurred: mortals and immortals live strange entwined lives; nature and high magic exist side by
side. It is Ireland under its old name, Erin, a country of ancient gods with fading powers, who dwell invisible in fairy mound palaces, waiting for a chance to meddle in the affairs of men.

In the Children of Lir, Erin is a land of harsh enchantment and tragedy - even for a sea god, whose innocent children are so cruelly cursed by their foster mother. In the epic tales of Cu Chulainn, it is a proud realm of valiant heroes and near-impossible quests for love. In the stories of Finn Mac Cool Erin is a kingdom of glory where Finn leads his band of warriors, the Fianna, through their perilous adventures in defence of Erin's shores, to a place in Irish legend forever.

By listening to this audio book we realize very quickly that our spirit returns at very high speed to the time when our parents told us legends.

Andersen's Fairy Tales - Hans Christian Andersen - Audio Book

Andersen's Fairy Tales - Hans Christian Andersen : The world of Hans Christian Andersen is seen through the eyes of children.

There is the every-day wonder of an ugly duckling being transformed into a swan; the puf fed-up Emperor being fooled by his own importance; the tender tragedy of a little match girl; the upright honesty of John rewarded by his travelling companion. By bringing true feelings to these stories, Andersen's tales have become part of universal folklore.

This type of audio book is the one that we can listen to endlessly.

Farmer Giles of Ham - J. R. R. Tolkien - Audio Book

Farmer Giles of Ham - J. R. R. Tolkien : Farmer Giles of Ham is one of Tolkien’s most popular stories, full of wit and humour, set in the days when giants and dragons walked the earth. He did not look like a hero. He was fat and red-bearded and enjoyed a slow, comfortable life.

Then one day a rather deaf and short-sighted giant blundered on to his land. More by luck than skill, Farmer Giles managed to scare him away. The people of the village cheered: Farmer Giles was a hero.

A beautiful story which will please not only children but adults too.

Just So Stories - Rudyard Kipling - Audio Book

Just So Stories - Rudyard Kipling : 'I am the cat who walks by himself and all places are alike to me' !

Here are the delightful stories which Kipling first told his own children before setting them down on paper. How the Camel got his Hump, How the Leopard got his spots, How the Elephant got his Trunk, The Butterfly that Stamped and many Others. They remain popular, entertaining every generation, partly because of the story and partly because of the vivid way they are written. To hear them unabridged as they are here is to enjoy them in their original form.

Rudyard Kipling : all my childhood ! Listening to this audio book is to go back where time had no meaning, no sense and the pleasure intense.

Leon and the Spitting Image - Allen Kurzweil - Audio Book

Leon and the Spitting Image - Allen Kurzweil : Leon and the Spitting Image is about a hotel full of animals. It's about an evil ice maker. It's about glass eyeballs and human catapults.
It's about really old panty hose and Possibly Fake Hair.

But mostly it's about Leon Zeisel and his epic quest to survive fourth grade. What's stopping him? Two things. First, there's Miss Hagmeyer. She's a supernaturally strict teacher with ears that resemble giant rotting mushrooms. And then there is Leon's archenemy, Lumpkin the Pumpkin, a human tank with a deadly dodgeball throw known to all as the sidewinder.

Peter Pan - James Barrie - Audio Book

Peter Pan - James Barrie : The three Darling children visit Never-Never Land with Peter Pan,
the boy who will never grow up. Peter Pan is the male hero of the novel. He is a beautiful boy who still has all his first teeth; he wears clothes made of leaves, cobwebs, and the juices that run from trees.

Peter Pan hates all adults, particularly women because he believes he was forgotten by his birth mother. Peter is extremely cocky and he often steals ideas from other children and friends. Peter is the only boy who can fly without the help of fairy dust.

What else to say ? If you are like me, and sometimes like to go back to your childhood, close your eyes and just listen. It works wonders.
